Every year on 9th October, the world celebrates the power of post. World Post Day marks the creation of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 — the foundation of the modern global postal network. At UK Postbox, we’re proud to be part of this tradition, helping people and businesses stay connected in a digital-first world.
Since 2008, we’ve been helping individuals, businesses, and organisations of all sizes manage their post - from sending letters, postcards and parcels to providing UK addresses and secure digital mail services. By digitising incoming mail, we give our customers instant access to their post from anywhere in the world.
Today, our dedicated mailing facility has processed approximately 4 million letters and 1 million parcels! Supporting everyone from expats and remote workers to businesses, government departments, and the NHS.
World Post Day is celebrated every year on the 9th October to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. The UPU was a groundbreaking step in creating a unified international postal system, making it possible for people across the world to send and receive mail reliably.
Why is it celebrated?
The day highlights the important role postal services play in connecting communities, supporting businesses, and enabling communication across borders. It’s a chance to reflect on how postal systems have evolved - from handwritten letters to parcels and digital mail solutions - and to recognise the people who keep mail moving.
For nearly two decades we've been receiving, scanning and forwarding mail. We spotted a gap in the market for digital mail services, especially for expats, remote workers, and privacy-conscious businesses. Here's how we keep mail moving:
When you sign up for UK Postbox, you’ll be provided with a unique address to use for all letter and parcel deliveries. Your mail will arrive at our mailing facilitiy where we will receive it on your behalf.
We get deliveries several times a day. Our teams communicate together to keep track on the mail that's arrived. This can be legal documents, important parcels, personal letters. Whatever mail we receive for you, we handle it with the due care you expect.
We'll notify you that your mail is received. You can check these via the UK Postbox platform or mobile app and you can filter between letters and parcels.
A photo or scan will then be taken of your envelope or parcel before being uploaded digitally to your account. You can then log in and view what’s arrived and take additional actions such as asking for a letter to be opened and scanned,
You can request your mail is forwarded to an address of your choosing.
You can also ask us to safely shred your mail.
Physically and digitally. We store physical mail for 30 days for free.
Many individuals and businesses use our Send Letters Online service to send letters in the UK from anywhere in the world. Suitable for personal users sending individual letters and companies with high capacity needs. This is also known as Hybrid Mail.
We store your stock safely in our secure warehouse. Then, when items are sold on your chosen store (Shopify, eBay, WooCommerce, etc.), we pick, pack, and post them to your customer.
World Post Day reminds us that communication takes many forms - letters, parcels, or digital. At UK Postbox, we’re building on postal traditions while shaping the future of mail. Whether you’re an expat, a business, or simply someone who values privacy and convenience, we’re here to keep your post moving.
We’d like to wish a happy World Post Day to everyone who depends on post, and to all those working across the mail industry.
